I get 'Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 23040 bytes) in /usr/share/pear/PEAR/PackageFile/v2/Validator.php on line 1618' even though I allocated plenty of memory. Any ideas?

With PHP 5.3, APC 3.0.x will fail when compiling ( <a href="http://pecl.php.net/bugs/bug.php?id=16078" target="_blank">http://pecl.php.net/bugs/bug.php?id=16078</a> ), use this command instead:

pecl install apc-beta

This will use APC 3.1.3p1 instead of APC 3.0.19 and all works.

[...] I looked at several Op-Code Cache utilities, and after some discussion with another tech decided not to use eAccelerator but rather APC. In part because of the simplicity of installation, and because it’s going to be included as a core part of PHP 6. I would like to thank @floris for this post on installing APC on CentOS [...]
