Macaroni Madness

It has been quite a while since my last Pasta, so I thought, “why not go big?” I bought the beef, the ingredients and the pasta. And put on some nice Jazz music and spend a bit of time preparing it and cooking it. Oh, and the outcome: Delicious. I like it 🙂

I went to the local market and got some raw pealed tomatoes, ready to be cooked into a sauce. I also got some vegetables like white cabbage, mushrooms, and things like that. Oh, and and onion, and some red and yellow paprika.

Then I went to a local store and got grated cheese and some eggs, macaroni pasta, and the beef from local butcher.

Coming home I prepared some of it, slicing up the onion, peppers, paprika, mushrooms, etc. And preparing the beef and the pasta. All while the tomatoes and once in a while the ingredients for the sauce were cooking into a nice sauce.

Once the water was boiling in the pasta pan, I added the macaroni to it and let it get ready el-dante.

I fried the sliced up onion (well, half an onion) in some oil in a hot frying pan, and then added the meat. Once that was done it was added to the pasta sauce which was getting ready.

After cleaning the frying pan I baked an egg in it, double sided, pretty quick. And put it on the side of a big pasta plate with some grated cheese over it. Added some lettuce and some of the left over raw vegetables for a fresh bite.

The pasta was done, and the sauce was simmering on the fire getting ready. The macaroni was thrown into a sieve, washed off a bit with a bit of warm water, thrown around a bit and put back in the pan so vaporize the rest of the water (no fire, just using warmth of the pan). In that minute it was doing it, the sauce was ready, and I took it off the fire and gave it a final stir. It was not too thin, but not too thick; in other words, perfect.

I made a low volcano shaped macaroni tower on the plate, and filled it up with some of the sauce. And put the lit on the pans (we’re gonna use that tomorrow again!)

Got a knife and fork and napkin, a bit glass of cooled water with ice cubes, and went to the balcony where I had my supper.

Mhmmmm, pasta! So worth the time and effort. 🙂

Last.fm

And yet another big social network added to my profile. Last.fm this time. Very nice music community. And I am not going to discuss if PureVolume or MySpace is a better one for music. This one I picked because it has great recommendations, and quite a few of my friends seem to be on it. The design is delicios and the album art is user picked as far as I can tell. And it intergrates with iTunes really smoothly.

My social profile for last.fm can be found here: http://www.last.fm/user/MrFloris

If you have not signed up yet I hereby invite you to do so. And if you are signed up I kindly invite you to follow / befriend me. We can compare music taste and discover new bands.

Last.fm has a great page with information about who they are and what they do. http://www.last.fm/about – I recommend to glance over it for a more detailed impression.

Basically it watches what you are doing, or rather what you are listening to. And based on that information it can get you into contact with new people who share your taste, and with new music that matches your taste. You will find yourself on the web site for hours trying and buying new things.

Personally I would love to see them buy blip.fm and merge the two social sites.

Please hook me up if you are on last.fm too, I’d love to see what you listen to.

Impressed with WordPress 2.7

For an open source project the WP 2.7 release is significant enough. The dashboard (backend) looks pretty damn nifty and I just hope 3.0 will introduce an equally pretty frontend. I would NOT mind using that as my default theme! Continue reading Impressed with WordPress 2.7

Merry Christmas Everybody (2007)

Yep, it’s that time of the year again: Christmas!

So I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and have a great time with your family.

I of course am home alone sick. Boo! My sister had this great dinner planned but that cold / flu I’ve been trying to fight came back this weekend. Last night I got sick and spend half the night feeling totally horrible. I’ve downed some Advils and Ibuprofen for my back pain, but to no relieve. I had to cancel.

My niece and my sister probably made this great dinner I am missing out on, plus I really miss not being there with my family this year. The thought of food right now however (ugh!). Since I am not doing too well today I am keeping this blog entry short.

I just finished giving the staff on my sites a pat on the back (donation in paypal) for their hard work in 2007, and mailed out a December newsletter to the members on my site with a season’s greeting. But I am going back to bed now, because this flu is slowly turning me into the grinch (humbug!)

Merry Christmas!
